Internship at a Law Company in Barcelona

Karolina is a 20-year-old girl from Poland, studying Law and Political Science in France who wants to gain as much international experience as possible.

So she decided to dare herself and start an internship in Barcelona.

We met Karolina on her last day and had a chat about her experience in Barcelona. While drinking a coffee and having dinner afterwards, she told us about the “story of her life”. Three words about her first impressions about living Barcelona: Social. Easygoing. Friendliness.

For her, Barcelona is some kind of “perfection” –  people are so nice and it was very easy for her to catch up and make new friends.

About the internship

The company she decided to become a part of is specialized in Transportation Law with a lot of foreign departments.

Every day was different and she really loved her job, as some of her daily tasks were acquiring new clients, sending E-Mails to them, even though her mailbox seemed to explode, helping with all kind of translations and advising international customers.

Due to her broad language skills, she could assist in the French, English and Polish department and hence the work never became boring at all. Karolina was always very excited and enthusiastic about everything, even scanning documents wasn’t boring for her because of the amazing and friendly atmosphere and great colleagues at the office. She never thought that lawyering could be so much fun!

The first remarkable thing she noticed: Everyone at her office was relaxed and easy-going, whereas Karolina was used to very strict and hard-working conditions.

She was so enthusiastic about her work so the company decided to pay her a small amount of remuneration, but the money was not important because she wanted to contribute to the company’s success and not work there for selfish reasons.

Karolina described her company as “very open-minded and friendly”, they were “always eager to have a good connection with their interns and granted help whenever it was needed”.

Before starting her internship, she was very concerned that she might not have enough skills because she is still a student without any hands-on experience but her colleagues as well as her supervisors helped her to lose this “fear”.

To keep it short:

“I absolutely loved my internship and definitely stay in contact with colleagues in my free time, also with my boss because they were simply amazing! The last few days I prepared a present for them, a gift basket full of typical Polish delicacies. On my last day at the office, they prepared a large brunch for my departure and gave me two law books as a gift. I almost cried when I had to leave! I would definitely do it again and I am going to miss them all.”

And what did she learn so far?

Karolina learned a lot about lawyering, the process of transportation and mostly about herself too. She also gained some marketing skills, which she can use for starting her own business in the future.

Additionally, her soft skills and intercultural competences enlarged a lot during her time in Barcelona.

And Sí-internships?

In her opinion, everything was simply perfect, from soup to nuts. Immediately after her arrival, the coordinators on-site prepared an intern-meeting where all their interns placed in Barcelona spent a great evening together. And still, even after her departure they will stay in contact.

What’s next?

Her adventure is not about to end yet. We wish you all the best and a lot of fun for your internship in China and hope to have you back in Barcelona soon!
